11/29/2000: Homepage.com has been acting strange lately, and I don't understand why. It keeps giving me the message "That User Does Not Exist," but if I refresh the page it works fine. It's frustrating, because reliability is why I chose them in the first place! I may switch again...I haven't updated the site in a long, long time, and that's mainly because my TORG campaign in now utterly inactive, as I moved to the other end of the country and fallen out of touch with a couple of former players. I planned a major website overhaul, including changing everything to the former Core Earth setting, but advancing the war 10 years... The focus was to be this: the next generation of Core Earthers, having known only the state of the invasion their whole lives, will not think of it as as tragic or problematic as the older generations, the ones who can remember Earth as it was before the invasion. Therefore, the newer generations aren't as anxious to repel the invasion; in fact, since, to them, things have ALWAYS been this way, they are more interested in developing working economic relations with the new realities, accepting them as an integral part of the New Earth, and even breaking down axial barriers by making other realities fashionable. This idea was shot down by Kansas Jim (if you subscribe to the TORG listserve, you'll know him -- otherwise, he is the guy WEG hired to rewrite the rulebook this last year). Jim said, because reality invaders need to constantly increase their borders, a "cold war" scenario could never happen -- stagnation begins to cost an invading reality more possibility energy than it is gaining. It was neat idea, though, and if I get motivated to return to it soon I might just bend some house rules to make it work.
But lately I've been in graduate school, and honestly, the only roleplaying I've been doing is with the new D&D 3rd edition, so TORG updates are not too likely. Sorry. The site is pretty well self-sufficient for the time being -- nothing important missing -- but I may decide to move it if Homepage.com doesn't improve soon.
Thanks for dropping by anyway, and I hope you used the online character Dossier to record your favorite characters or NPCs for posterity!
