What is Torg2000?

Torg2000 is a campaign world devised for the roleplaying game Torg. Torg came out in 1990, and introduced players to the idea of concurrent genre gaming through the context of the "story" as framing device. What this means is that the entire roleplaying game was set within an artificial world imitating Earth as we represent it through movies. In this sense it was "cinematic." It's entire rules system was built around the notion of the cinematic experience.

This was also explored by bringing in genres we are somewhat familiar with through the human dialogue of movies and stories, such as fantasy, science fiction, and horror. The game system's framework allowed for the introduction of such obviously alien genres by designating them as "invaders" attacking our Earth to steal possibility energy.

Possibility energy is a mystical, inevident power which drives the universe and all living within it. It fuels the function of evolution and creation, among other more mundane uses, such as giving an individual greater ability to influence his or her own surroundings.

Characters used possibility energy to improve their capabilities, and had to select one "reality" to originate from. Reality is the title given to the game's genre use. The characters the players would control were joined to fight the invaders and prevent the theft of possibility energy (considered an evil act.)

Torg2000 is a home-grown campaign in this roleplaying game, a collaborative creation between players and gamemaster. Over the near decade Torg has been out, we have deviated from it somewhat, which is a natural process of every campaign. The pages attempt to simply present this information to the public, and especially other Torg players, to inform them what turns out games have made and provide a discourse on the ideas we have generated. There are many other sites performing the same function. We hope you will find our site at least entertaining, if not interesting. I will do my best to update it on a regular basis.
